Chris & Heather Wedding Reception | Nikos June 14th, 209

This past weekend we had the opportunity to work with Chris Schabert & Heather Ucheema at their wedding reception. Their reception was held at the historic Nikos Restaurant in Burbank, Illinois. Aside from the no-show photographer, their reception was a blast.

Some highlights of the night was a Star Wars Themed introduction matched with the bridal party's unique way of entering into the hall (watch the video and you'll get it haha). There was also a surprise Father/Daughter Dance in which Heather (the bride) and her father busted into the "Time Warp" from the Rocky Horror Film.

In the end, I was delightfully surprised at how many people stayed to the very end of the reception. Often times Sunday night weddings can empty out early, but not for this crowd. They came to have a good time and they were going to make sure of it.

A special thank you and congratulations to Chris and Heather for letting us share a special part in your big day. We wish you a great future! :)

Private School Prom Weekend pt II

As mentioned in the previous post, we had a blast rocking out at the Westin and on Navy Pier with Timothy Christian Highschool on Thursday May 28th. On the following day it was back to the city where we headed to The Palmer House on Wabash and Madison. The Palmer house is an old historic hotel on the southside of the loop. This event was for Chicago Christian's 2009 Senior Prom.

The event was held on the 2nd floor in the Honorary Ballroom. The large Honoray Ballroom easily accommodated the 125 students that were in attendance. The evening began with a very quick dinner and a short presentation provided by their prom committee. As soon as the presentation was finished it was our turn to turn on the music and let the kids "Get Down" (no pun intended).

Since dinner was really quick they had an abundance of time to dance (approx. 4 1/2 hours) which is a really long time. We kicked the night off with some Kevin Rudolph and mixed in and out of tracks to keep the energy high. Towards the end of the night we moved into a 20 minute set of some classic 80s and 90s songs that went over pretty well. Some songs including "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, "It's Tricky" by Run DMC, and even the "Electric Slide".

The event came together seamlessly and I could see it in the kid's eyes that they were having a good time. Another successful show and a very tired DJ. Thankfully I get Saturday and Sunday to relax before it's off to the Weekday Show Grind. Until next time.... keep spinning! :)

Private School Prom Weekend 09 pt I.

This past weekend was another crazy busy weekend here at the Operation Getdown Headquarters. On Thursday evening we were invited to entertain the students of Timothy Christian High School for their Senior Prom 2009. This years event was hosted on the sixteen floor of the Westin Hotel on Michigan Avenue. If you've never been to the Westin before its the building right across the street from the John Hancock center. The sixteen floor is the top floor of this hotel and it over looks the magnificent mile not only southbound, but northbound as well. You also get a great from sixteen stories up of the Water Tower Place and the Cheesecake factory.

The Prom had about 150 kids and they were a great crowd (as usual) to work with. After the prom we quickly packed things up and headed to Navy Pier to party with them at their after party on the Kanon Cruise Ship. The Kanon cruise ship is one of the largest charter only vessels on Lake Michigan and it was pretty cool DJing on the top floor of the boat. It was also very cool to be able to drive our van right out onto Navy Pier after hours when it's completely empty. Not too many people in Chicago can say they did that.

The boat party rocked on until 2:00 a.m. and at that point you could tell the kids were getting tired. It was a quick but tiring teardown at 2:30 am, but well worth it. At this point in was bon voyage to downtown Chicago until the next morning when we had to rock for Chicago Christian's Prom at The Palmer House on Wabash.

Stash & Becca Wedding Reception | Ashton Place May 24th, 2009

Along with Mike & Jenna's reception at Dinolfos we also had the opportunity to work with Stash & Becca Peralta on Sunday May 24th, 2009. This event was held at Ashton Place in Willowbrook and was another exciting reception.

If you've never been to Ashton Place before I highly recommend you consider it for your next event. The venue is absolutely beautiful and the staff is always a pleasure to work. Not to mention they have a killer chef who really creates some appetizing dinners.

The reception began right around 7:00pm with a Rocking of the bridal party. The song that they chose for their introduction song was "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns and Roses followed by "Cochise" by AudioSlave. From the very beginning of the night I could tell this wedding was going to be a blast. There were well over 200 guests here and the energy in the room was contagious.

In the end the dance floor was busy and hoping all night. Although this was a younger crowd, the oldies were definetly the dance floor pleasers. Some of the popular songs of the night were "Shout" by the Isley Brothers, "Runaround Sue" by Dion, and of course the "Operation Getdown Cha Cha Slide Remix" by Casper.

Special congrats and thank you to Stash & Becca Peralta. We were honored to share apart in your special day. Best of luck to you in the future and have a fun honeymoon!

Mike & Jenna's Reception | May 22nd, 2009 Dinolfos

This past week we had the opportunity to perform at Mike and Jenna Korhorn’s wedding reception at the elegant Dinolfos Banquets in Mokena, Illinois. This event was a blast and we had an opportunity to pull out quite a few of the classics in our music collection. The reception began with a delightful grand entrance down Dinolfo’s grand staircase to the song “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer. Then immediately following they cut the cake to the song “Sugar Sugar” by the Archies.

As soon as dinner finished Mike and Jenna shared their first dance as husband and wife to the song “How Sweet It Is” by James Taylor. They immediately followed with the Father/Daughter , Mother/Son dances and of course then it was time for open dancing.

The reception was a blast and went off without any glitches. Once again special congratulations going out to Mike & Jenna. We wish you the best!

It's upon us.... Crazy Week 2009

It’s officially upon us……… What is it you ask? Well, in the DJ business it is officially the busiest week of the year. With a total of 8 shows, things are pretty hectic and busy around the Getdown office this week. This week alone we have 3 weddings, 2 middle school dances, 2 high school proms, and 1 prom after party.

It’s times like these that I praise God for his abundant blessings. In a time when businesses and individuals are struggling to find work we’ve managed to keep increasingly busy. I thank God for his blessings and I thank you for your support as friends and clients.

We do appreciate your business and continually strive to provide you with the absolute best entertainment DJ services in Chicago. We owe it to you!

Stay tuned over the next week. I plan on doing a separate blog entry for each of our events this week. I had better start writing! 

Operation Getdown DJ Provides Voice Over Work

So it's not everyday that I get asked to provide voice-over work, but this past week I got that opportunity. The voice overs were for an online mini commercial my church is putting together. The video is a promo video for their Vacation Bible School and the theme is Crocodile Rock. The vocals in the begining are someone else, but at the end of the video it's all me.

It's fast moving, but we assume most people have an attention span of about 1 minute anyway. So feel free to watch the video below and let me know what you think. :)
